The design of the chair unites its function and ergonomics (how comfortable it is for its user), as well as functional requirements as size, volume, flexibility, weight, durability and solidity, stability to pollution and vision.

If we have a chair with such a design we will enjoy physical comfort and correct body position no matter how much time we spend at the office. Still, to possess an ergonomic office chair is not enough. It is also necessary to adapt to the individual proportions of the body. Prior to choosing an office chair you have to decide the desired height, according to the height of your desk or working place. This decision depends mostly on the type of work and the possibility the user of the chair to be unusually tall. The height of the working place defines the possible positions of the chair. And once your place in the office was fixed, pay attention to the following basic rules:

  • First, sit comfortably on your chair, as closer to your desk as possible, so that the upper parts of the arms are parallel to your spine. Put your arms on the working place. Adjust the chair if the elbows are in a position different than 90 degrees angle.
  • Check whether you can easily put your hands/fingers under your knees, as you are sitting on the seat. If there is more than a finger distance between the seat and the legs you should lift up the chair as well as your desk.
  • If it is hard to put your fist between the back side of the calf of the leg and the front of the seat it means that the chair is uncomfortable. In that case you can move forward the backrest, support your back with a pillow or change the chair with another one.
  • While you are sitting, your body should stick to the backrest without any effort from you. You should not slide down or stoop.
  • Look ahead while you are sitting comfortably and close your eyes. Then slowly open them.It is best if you look straight at the centre of your monitor. If the level of the monitor is higher or lower you will have to adjust it to reduce the neck tension.
  • The under elbows are a necessary part of your chair. They will reduce the tension in the shoulders and the neck if you use them. They will also prevent stooping while you are sitting.
